About

Cape Town tech enthusiast who digs into South African public data and writes about things that affect everyday life.

I'm Jean Rauch, a Cape Town-based tech person who started SA Info as a side project to track South African fuel prices — and it grew from there. The site now covers SASSA grants, driving licences, traffic fines, and travel; basically anything that involves navigating South African government systems or data.

I'm not a journalist or a financial analyst. My background is in technology and software. What I do is dig into publicly available government sources — the CEF daily snapshot for fuel prices, the SASSA website for grant information, the eNaTIS system for licence data — and try to present it in a way that's actually readable. The government publishes a lot of useful information; it just isn't always easy to find.

My Approach

I'm not a journalist or a financial expert — I'm a tech enthusiast who finds South African public data interesting and sometimes frustrating to access. I dig into government sources like the CEF and DMPR, try to make the numbers readable, and build small tools to help people make sense of things that affect their daily lives. If something is useful to me as a South African, I'll probably write about it.
