Submitting R350 Grant appeal under the new rules:

The requirements for the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) R350 grant was recently changed. This means that some people who previously gained from the grant may no longer qualify under the new rules.

While unsuccessful grant applicants have the right to appeal their rejection status, Sassa will no longer be processing R350 grant appeals under the new act within the related law. Any R350 grant appeals from April 2022 onwards will be processed by the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSSA). Sassa is no longer involved with the appeals process as ITSSA is independent to them.

Here’s how the new appeals application process will work:

ITSSA works to verify your information against Sassa’s rejection of your application. The tribunal has stated that grant applicants will be required to submit an appeal as soon as possible so that a decision can be reached, which may take up to 90 days.

Grant applicants must submit an appeal via a new website, launched on 27 June 2022.

Please take note that old appeals must be resubmitted on the new website. Sassa has strongly advised that grant applicants appeal any rejected status for each month it has been declined. The ITTSA will investigate any discrepancies in the application evaluation process and identify protentional factors that lead to its rejection.
