The SASSA SRD R370 grant has not increased for June 2026. The 2026 Budget confirmed the grant stays at R370 per month — but it has been extended to 31 March 2027, giving millions of South Africans continued relief. Here is everything you need to know.

SRD Grant Amount for June 2026

The Social Relief of Distress grant remains at R370 per month. This is the same amount it has been since the last adjustment. No increase was announced in the February 2026 Budget Speech.

What was announced:

  • The SRD grant is extended until 31 March 2027
  • Government has allocated R36.4 billion to fund the extension
  • The grant continues to pay R370 per month for each approved beneficiary

If you are already approved, your payments continue automatically. You do not need to reapply.

Which SASSA Grants Did Increase in 2026

While the SRD stayed the same, all other social grants increased effective 1 April 2026. Here is how the amounts changed:

These increases are between 3.6% and 3.7%, broadly in line with inflation. The SRD was the only grant not included in the increase.

Who Qualifies for the SRD Grant

To receive the SRD R370 grant, you must meet all of the following:

  • Be between 18 and 60 years old
  • Be a South African citizen, permanent resident, refugee, asylum seeker, or hold a valid special permit (Zimbabwean Exemption, Lesotho Exemption, or Angola dispensation)
  • Be unemployed or earning less than R624 per month
  • Not receive any other SASSA grant on your own behalf
  • Not receive UIF (Unemployment Insurance Fund) payments
  • Not receive NSFAS student funding or a government-funded stipend
  • Not be living in a state institution

Note: Your eligibility is checked automatically every month. The system checks your bank account activity, UIF status, Home Affairs records, and NSFAS status. You do not reapply each month, but you can be approved one month and declined the next if your circumstances change.

How to Apply

Applications are open online. You do not need to visit a SASSA office.

  1. Go to srd.sassa.gov.za
  2. Click on “Apply for SRD Grant”
  3. Enter your South African ID number and cellphone number
  4. Complete the application form
  5. You will receive an SMS confirming your application was received

You will need your:

  • South African ID number
  • Active cellphone number (used for verification and payment notifications)
  • Banking details (if you want payment directly into a bank account)

June 2026 SRD Payment Dates

The SRD grant is paid in batches near the end of each month. For June 2026, SRD payments run from 24 to 30 June 2026.

There is no single fixed date — your payment date depends on when your batch is processed. Check your status at srd.sassa.gov.za to see your specific payment window.

Note: Youth Day (16 June) is a public holiday. It does not affect the payment schedule.
